Rameswaram has been a very important and integral part of Hindu pilgrimage and it is one of the most important places to cover in Southern India. It is one of the four Dhams (sites.abodes/seats) or pilgrimage sites in India that are widely revered by Hindus. The four pilgrimage site comprises Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri and Rameswaram. Rameswaram got its importance in the Treta-Yuga when Lord Ram built a Shiv-ling here and worshiped it to get the blessings of Lord Shiva. The Rameswaram means "the God of Lord Ram". Ram himself is considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is said that things happen when they are supposed to happen, more so, in the case of divine interventions.
